Bernice was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She will be undergoing chemotherapy treatments in Fairbanks and will travel to Seattle for surgery later this year. All proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to help offset costs incurred during Bernice’s treatment.
Donations of raffle items are needed and may be brought to the CRCD office on campus (Brooks 4th floor), the Interior-Aleutians Campus (4280 Geist Road) or to the Tribal Hall beginning at 10am on the day of the event. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. There will be live raffles on raffle items, 50/50 raffles, and a baked goods auction.
Bernice is originally from Nulato and is the daughter of Edith Nicholas. She lives in Fairbanks with her husband Stewart. She is the mother of Stewart Jr, Alice and Derek. Bernice has been a tireless advocate for education and a respected leader who has served Alaskans for decades. She currently works at UAF’s College of Rural and Community Development (CRCD) as the Vice Chancellor of Rural, Community and Native Education. She previously worked for the State of Alaska and the Fairbanks Native Association.
